Cheap
Sometimes I think we Chinese people are quite cheap.
Let me explain myself for the statement above. It is not an insult, no, for being “cheap” is actually being quite smart but on the other hand, the results are quite unexpected.
But yes I think we Chinese people are quite cheap sometimes during some circumstances. At least, my Dad is quite cheap.
Early in the morning our whole family have to wake up early to start off the day, to go to work or go to school. Usually I can wake up the moment my alarm rings, but as I get older it seems much harder for me to wake up. So nowadays I just turn off the alarm unconsciously and sleep on. Today is no different: first I switched off the alarm during 6.10 am, then 6.12 am, then 6.14 am, and so on.
So I ended up waking up late. As usual.
Rushing to the washroom quickly, I decided to wash my hands with liquid soap, and so I pressed the head of the soap container to get some soap. But nothing came out.
So I pressed again.
And again.
And again…..
“DAD! There’s no more liquid soap, need to refill the container!”
Dad, on the other hand, replied me: “no we don’t have liquid soap anymore. Give me the container, I will make some.”
Oh okay…..wait what? How can you make liquid soap now? Completely clueless, I just stood there while Dad took the container quickly like an enlightened man, and opened the container. I stood there with my mouth open while my Dad fills the container with water. I was completely speechless.
After sounds of running water, he turned off the tap, closed the container and handed it to me swiftly, like as if he had done this many times before.
“Here you go, I made some more soap, now speed up or you will be late!” and with that he rushed out the washroom.
I stood there holding the container, staring at it, absorbing what I saw.
“How is this ‘making soap’? You. Are. So. Cheap. Dad.”
It is quite cheap that my Dad “made” soap but if you think about it, it is actually quite “smart” in many ways!
Such a cheap way to start the day.
